Ventoux: King of the Mountain

0 Reviews

Some say Mont Ventoux is the hardest of all the mythical Tour de France climbs and rightly so. Despite having only being used in the Tour de France since 1951 (many of the giant climbs of the Pyrenees and Alps date back to the early 20th Century) it is probably the most famous and feared of the great climbs of the Tour. Unfortunately, the mountain gained even more fame because of tragedy when, in 1967, top British rider Tom Simpson collapsed and died nearly within reach of the summit. Mont Ventoux has been the site of the some of the greatest King of Mountain battles in cycling history. This artwork by Michael Valenti perfectly captures the insanity of the torturous climb while keeping to a playful tone that embodies the love of cycling – which is all about challenge, suffering and ultimately the self satisfaction that comes with the earned accomplishment of a hardworking aspirant.

“The Ventoux is a god of Evil, to which sacrifices must be made. It never forgives weakness and extracts an unfair tribute of suffering.” Roland Barthes, French philosopher and bicycle racing fan.

Product Description

We love artwork. Whether it's making it or buying it, the walls of our house need to be filled with visual delight. And what better than a high-quality art print that speaks to our innermost passions. To fulfill this art-hunger, we searched high and low for the finest cycling-related artist in the world and we believe that we have found him. He's on of Chicago's legendary characters, artist Michael Valenti.

When Valenti isn't battling snow-bound streets to enjoy his daily distance rides he's in the art studio finding the caffeinated inspiration to create the beautiful pieces that make up his “Bicycle Movies” collection.

This masterwork “Ventoux: King of the Mountain” is a fanciful ode to one of the Tour De France's most devastating climbs, Mont Ventoux. It's on this altitude heart breaker that Velo Legends are born and it's also the place where Champions begin to show their wear and tear as their careers begin their descent.

Each Giclée print is reproduced on heavyweight watercolor paper using fade resistant archival inks. The term “giclee print” connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are printed with archival quality inks. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
